★★★★☆ — I really liked this book

Quote from the book:

“Demographically, Cemetery was of an average size, in an average area, with average workers, townsfolks, and children, average climate, and even an average unemployment rate. The only thing about Cemetery that wasn’t average, was the number of crimes that went unsolved and unpunished.”

Pros: A dark debut novel with a strong world building and character development.

Summary :

A strange town with a strange name, Cemetery, NY is filled with crime and secrets.

When a car accident one fateful night leads to a search for two missing bodies, detectives Abby Williams – an almost-thirty year old with something to prove – and Ed Reyes – a jaded, senior officer with a career as long as his partner is old – set out to solve the latest mystery.

Before long, a string of missing persons becomes a collection of bloodless bodies that has even the police pathologist stumped.

As the bloodshed continues, it becomes clear that the gruesome killings plaguing the town of Cemetery may not be the handiwork of some shadowy figure but of something even more sinister.

As detectives Williams and Reyes start to question the world around them, can they learn to put their differences aside? Or will the investigation of a lifetime be the end of their lives?

Author Word about the story :

“Finished with my final (probably) proofread and you know what, I enjoyed my own novel!

It was a pretty intense labor of love, filled with time away, imposter syndrome, loss, and hard work writing other things.

I hope you’ll give it a shot, and I really hope you enjoy my debut full length, a detective horror. Thank you.”

My Thoughts on this Book :

I have so much fun in Cemetery ! the book has been in my TBR with the novelette BestGhost from the same author and I was waiting for them to be sell outside of Amazon to buy them but C.J sent me both as Arc so I read them right away. I’m more horror than thriller, but this thriller (Welcome to Cemetery) is so dark than I felt the horror at every corners ! I've been hooked from the very first page. Give me a city with more crimes than people and a bad-ass, unhinged, queer female lead cop with a weird past and I'm in. Her partner, old life-battered cop trying to care more to catch up with his kind of weirdly protector-like and determined partner is excellent. The duo works pretty well. I like how the story is written, the "villain" was kind of not enough for my taste (based on behavior and acts not about the crimes) but it still work pretty great for me. I definitely want more tales from Cemetery in the near future, I'll read them with pleasure and enthusiasm.
